Acer Aspire 7551 laptop with 17" display - updated from Win 7 to Win 10

A long time ago I joined the Windows preview programme with a view to trying out the forthcoming new OS from Microsoft. This I did and apart from a few teething troubles the new OS worked well. Over time the OS was updated through various beta's. Everything was supposed to be sorted when Win 10 became offical - except the latest incarnation only displayed a 1152 x 864 on my 1280 x800 laptop screen. Despite my efforts in trying to update drivers & installing Acer, AMD, & ATI Radeon utilities the generic display driver used by MS would not update or uninstall.

I finally decided to re-install the original preview OS via USB stick as the display had been at the correct resultion when the preview OS had started. No joy. The old OS would not load. In frustration all I could do was switch the laptop on and off in vain hope Win 10 would sort itself out. At last, I was able to choose what to do during Win 10 boot. I chose to reset the OS but also keeping my other files and folders intact. The reset worked and I can choose display resolutions upto 1600 x 900 (recommended). Win 10 is going from strength to strength. Good'un.
